Omar Jallow, former agriculture minister and PPP grandee, says he won’t work with President Adama Barrow again after the way he was treated when he was unceremoniously sacked from his cabinet post.
The veteran politician was rumoured to have been considered for a recall to the cabinet after the departure of Ousainou Darboe and two other ministers. However OJ has put paid to the rumours as he ruled himself out of any cabinet return.
OJ told The Fatu Network on Monday that he was not happy with the manner in which President Barrow treated him.
“I thought with my role in the cabinet, if I have done anything that the president thought he was not very happy with, he could have called me to his office like what Sir Dawda used to do; to consult you, to know why you did such or why you said such.
“And as human beings we are all (bound) to make mistakes, then we can resolve our mistakes in-house. But I was dismissed and the letter was sent to me. The president didn’t call me and up to today I’m talking to you the president has never talked to me. I am not in politics for position, if I was then I would never have resigned my managerial job at the commercial bank.”
OJ said similar maltreatments were meted out to Henry Gomez, former minister of Youth and Sports and Mrs Fatoumatta Jallow -Tambajang, former vice president and the brain behind the Coalition.
He said the Coalition agreements on appointing and dismissing government officials was set aside once Barrow was sworn in. He added that the committees that were meant to be set up to oversee the Coalition agreements were never created.
“I thought as responsible and matured leaders, we should always try to live by the dictates of our agreements. We agreed that we were going to have a coalition for three years. But the agreement was never honoured and that’s why all (these sackings) are happening.”
