Lamin Senghore

A former agent of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Lamin Senghore, had been granted bail after his arrest for alleged perjury during his testimony to the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission.

Senghore, who spent four days in custody, was released on Thursday with a strict bail conditions including weekly reporting to the police.

The former NIA operative and soldier, who had the nickname the Assassin, had been implicated in human rights violations including extrajudicial killings, torture, enforced disappearances during the Jammeh era. He denied any wrongdoing.

However during his TRRC testimony the lead counsel of the TRRC, Essa Faal, branded him a “liar”.  Faal told him that his nickname had a lot to do with his illegal actions.

“Assassin means killer. You claim that you have never participated in any torture or killing, yet they call you assassin; it means you don’t deserve the name assassin,” the Lead Counsel told the witness.

“Yes. I have never participated in the killing or torture of any soldier,” the witness said.
