Lamin Colley, a warrant officer class 2, was dismissed from the Gambia Armed Force on Tuesday based on the recommendation of the Ministry of Justice, the Army confirmed.

Major Lamin K. Sanyang, the army spokesman, said the dismissal of WOC2 Colley was as a result of his testimony at TRRC which they believe was ‘dishonest’.

“The Ministry of Defence received a letter from the Justice Ministry recommending to the President for the dismissal of Colley because of the fact that he gave a dishonest testimony despite a lot of overwhelming evidence to the contrary of the killing of Sergeant Fafa Nyang.

 “Colley will not receive any benefit from the Army. He is not discharged, but dismissed from the Army.

“The TRRC proceedings are ongoing. We are monitoring developments there (TRRC) because some of our service members are appearing before the commission.” 

Colley, an army medic, was accused of killing Fafa Nyang, one of the alleged November 11, 1994 mutineers, at Yundum Barracks. He denied killing him but admitted that his AK 47 accidentally discharged and a bullet went through his jaw when he went to help the injured Fafa Nyang.
