Africmed International Hospital has donated a fully equipped ambulance to the Gambia Police Force in a move aimed at boosting emergency medical response and supporting national security services.

The handover ceremony took place on Wednesday at the Africmed grounds and was led by Managing Director Dr. Omar Jagne, who said the donation reflects the institution’s commitment to supporting public service institutions and strengthening healthcare response systems in the country.

Dr. Jagne explained that the initiative followed a request from within the police medical services and represents the beginning of broader collaboration between Africmed and the security services.

“When the request was brought to me, I was happy to respond positively. This is just the beginning. There is a lot more we can do together,” he said.

He added that supporting the police force ultimately benefits the entire population, noting that every citizen relies on security services at some point.

“We all need the police. Whether it is me, my family, friends, or any member of the public, we all rely on their services. By helping the police, we are ultimately helping ourselves and our communities,” he stated.

Receiving the ambulance on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, AIG Kalilou Njie of the Police Medical Unit described the donation as a “magnificent gift” that will significantly improve the force’s emergency response capacity during operations, public events, and national deployments.

He said the initiative originated from a police medical officer who reached out to Dr. Jagne, whom he described as a mentor who has supported professional development within the medical sector.

AIG Njie added that the donation was warmly received by senior police management.
“It was a moment of jubilation for us.

Senior management was delighted because this donation comes at a time when we are looking at strengthening our medical services and improving our readiness for deployments across the country,” he said.

He further noted that although the contribution may appear small to some, its impact on life-saving operations will be significant.

“You may see it as a small contribution, but for us it is very significant. This ambulance will help save lives and improve our responsiveness whenever and wherever our services are required,” he said.

The Gambia Police Force assured that the ambulance will be properly maintained and effectively managed to ensure long-term service delivery.
