Aisha Fatty, a famous Gambian socialite who has been held in Senegal over a blackmail charge, has been finally acquitted and discharged.

Mrs Fatty and her ex-fiancé Abdoulie Thiam have been embroiled in a legal battle after their relationship ended. 

Mr Thiam claimed that Ms Fatty’s decision not to marry him resulted in significant financial losses and considerable embarrassment to his family, colleagues and friends.

Mrs Fatty has been languishing in custody in Senegal after she was promptly arrested at the Karang border while travelling to the Senegalese resort town of Saly, Mbour, to celebrate her wedding anniversary.

Meanwhile, the two are also in a deep legal battle at the Banjul High Court where Thiam is demanding the return of about two million dollars in cash, assets and materials he claimed he spent on her after she promised to marry him, a commitment she abandoned. She later married another man.
