Algeria head coach Majid Bougherra has praised the recent upgrades at The Gambia’s Independence Stadium but expressed concern over the state of the pitch.
Speaking after his team’s goalless draw against The Gambia, Bougherra reflected on his past experiences at the venue and welcomed the improvements. “As a player I played here many times vs Gambia. The stadium is much better now, beautiful dressing room, beautiful press conference,” he said.

However, Bougherra noted that while the infrastructure has improved, the pitch still needs attention. “I am sad for The Gambia because they deserve a better pitch. If they can improve the pitch it will be perfect,” he added.
The Independence Stadium has undergone several renovations in recent years, and Bougherra’s remarks highlight both the progress made and the work that remains to ensure top-level playing conditions.
