Almameh Gibba, the National Assembly member for Foni Kansala, has rejected a claim made by Sulayman Saho that he may have been potentially bribed by the ruling government to vote against the diaspora voting bill.

Mr Gibba asserted  that he rejected 5million dalasis offer from a pro-FGM group for him to withdraw his private member’s bill that sought to legalise female genital mutilation.

Mr Gibba stated that he would have accepted the offer if he was a greedy lawmaker, adding that some of his colleagues teased after he rejected the offer. The offer included a free visa for his family to travel and live in the West.

“I was offered 5 million [dalasis] by a group and that they will offer another 5 million to my people. But I turned it down. I used to be invited to a secret meeting and I was offered that all my family will be given a free visa to go and live in the West,” he said.
