Supporters of the opposition APRC party on Monday held a peaceful protest against the murder trial of Yankuba Touray.

The politician supporters gathered at the Arch in Banjul with placards and chanted “respect the 1997 Constitution.”

The protesters refused to speak to the Gambian press but granted interviews to a Senegalese media platform in the country.

They accused the Gambian press as “being bias” in their reporting, adding that “the Gambian journalists are tarnishing the image of the APRC party”.

Meanwhile, Yankuba Touray’s murder trial has been adjourned to July 15 after he refused to take a plea claiming that the 1997 Constitution granted him immunity from prosecution.

Mr Touray has been charged with murder over the death of former AFPRC Junta finance minister Ousman Koro Ceesay.
