Gambian army commander Lieutenant Colonel Pierre J Mendy has been laid to rest with full military honours.

The commander of Yundum Barracks passed away last week aged 57 after a brief illness.

The burial at the Old Jeshwang Christian Cemetery was a solemn ceremony as the late commander’s coffin was carried by his fellow officers in The Gambia Armed Forces.

A lone bugler played the Last Post as his coffin was lowered and then a 21-gun salute was fired.

The ceremony was attended by the family of the late army commander, senior military officers including the Deputy CDS, Major General Mamat O Cham.
