Army sergeant, Omar A Jallow, has admitted his role in the strangulation of nine prisoners sentenced to death in 2012.
The nine death row inmates, which included 8 men and 1 woman, were killed in 2012 after Jammeh promised to execute all inmates sentenced to death.
Sgt Jallow gave the disturbing account during his testimony before the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission on Wednesday.
He revealed that they strangled the nine inmates by “putting a nylon bag around their heads and pressing it.”
“When we got to the firing range – the Lance Corporal Bojang’s Range in Brikama. When we got to the range, we brought them down and put nylon bag over their heads and pressed it until they died,” he said.
Mr Jallow added: “we took the dead bodies of the victims to a bush and threw them in a well in Kanilai.”
Meanwhile, he also admitted to stranglling to death two Gambian – American – who were allegedly accused by Jammeh’s regime over a purported coup attempt.
He said Michael Correa was the one surveillancing the victims, adding that they arrested the two victims around the Petroleum House.
Ebou Jobe and Mamut Ceesay disapeared without trace and were later reported to have been killed.
“Nuha Badjie told us that Yahya Jammeh gave an order that they (victims) be killed and dismembered their bodies and we drove away to Kanilai. When we got to Kanilai we dug their graves and they were strangled to death,” he said.
