Brikama Area Council has given humanitarian aid to victims of last month’s windstorm.

“The Council has today provided the sum of GMD 500,000 as humanitarian assistance to support the people affected by the windstorm.

“The windstorm caused significant destruction to public infrastructure and individual properties across the region resulting in the displacement of families, injuries and two deaths.

“As of today, a total of 2560 households are affected with a population of 39,646 persons,” Brikama  Area Council said in a statement.

The devastating storm last month killed at least 10 people including a 5-year-old boy and displaced thousands of people.

It attracted much concern among Gambians and prompted the government to launch an emergency relief fund for the victims. The North Bank Region is the most affected region, where 9 people died.
