A bushfire has engulfed the bushes around Chamen in Baddibou, devastating a local farm and causing widespread concern among residents.

A video shared by The Fatu Network shows thick smoke billowing into the sky, with smouldering grass and crops clearly visible in the aftermath.

Firefighters arrived at the scene with their fire engine to combat the raging blaze, which had initially overpowered local residents.

Community members were seen rushing with buckets of water in a desperate attempt to extinguish the flames.

While the cause of the fire remains unknown, Mbye Saine, Project Coordinator of the Gambia Songhai Initiative, noted that such incidents are recurring in the area, according to The Fatu Network.

One of the affected farmers, Jumma Bah, revealed that the fire has left his herd of cows in distress, as they refuse to eat due to the smoke and stress from the approaching flames.
