At least 109 people tested for coronavirus in Bakau on Sunday and Monday had negative results, Gambiana has learned.

Last week the country registered five new positive cases of the deadly coronavirus sparking fears among Gambians as all the new cases were reportedly local transmission.

As a result the Ministry of Health on Sunday embarked on a mass random testing in Bakau where two of the  coronavirus cases were reported from. So far, the Ministry of Health has not registered a positive case from the mass testing.

Health officials say they will release the final tests soon. 

The country now has 17 coronavirus cases with 8 cases classified as active.
