President Adama Barrow has revealed that the government will buy a tonne of groundnut at a sum of 38,000 dalasis.

Barrow made the statement as he commenced an 18-day meet-the-people tour on Monday.

“This year the government will buy a ton of groundnut from farmers at a price of 38,000, marking an increase from 32,000 dalasis per tonne last year,” he announced before a huge crowd in Pakau Njogu.

He also urged farmers to sell their groundnuts to the government as a way of boosting the Gambia’s economy rather than selling it abroad.

He added that action will be taken against anyone found wanting of illegal export of groundnut.
