President Adama Barrow has announced a stringent new working method within the civil service as he plans to name new cabinet.
According to him, the civil service is the engine of the government which must work to their best for the development of the country.
“The public service is the engine of the government and if the civil service doesn’t operate the government will not operate effectively. We have tried a lot to effect reforms but reforms are not easy things because you will have some resistance.
“You will bring new things and you will have some people who will not be pleased with those and it will be new to some people.
“But I promise that my new incoming government will have someone who will be in control of the civil sector both day and night because we want the civil service to work effectively,” the president said in Banjul.
“This time it will be different, they say President Barrow is too soft, he doesn’t want to disturb anyone, but if you don’t want him to disturb you, you must get up and work.
“We will establish an inspector team under the civil service who will inspect every office to know those who come to work on time and those who don’t come to work on time and those who close at work before time and those who close at work on time.
“Every civil servant’s file must be operating. We must minimise social activities and we must take work as our priority, if we don’t work, we cannot develop.
“I am at my office from quarter to 8, so why will you sit at home until 10:00 to come to work. And those people are the ones who criticise the government,” he added.
