President Adama Barrow receiving his Indian counterpart during a state visit in July

The usual airport ceremonies including a Guard of Honour for President Adama Barrow on his travels overseas have now been cancelled except for State Visits and special occasions, State House announced yesterday.

In a press statement the Office of the President said:

“From now on, seeing off and receiving the President at the Banjul International Airport shall be limited to the Minister of Defence, Minister of Interior, Chief of Defence Staff, Inspector General of Police, and Director General of the State Intelligence Service.

“These changes are meant to improve on time and resource use and increase efficiency and effectiveness.”

Meanwhile, President Adama Barrow will travel to Russia next week to attend the first ever Russia-Africa Summit.
