The managing director of National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC) has been sacked, Gambiana has learned.

Alpha Robinson was giving his marching orders on Friday a year after taking over the troubled parastatals. No reason was given for his sacking but sources say it is over the performance of the company.

His deputy Nani Juwara is now the new acting MD of NAWEC.

NAWEC which has the reputation as the worst performing parastatals in the country has been failing to provide power and water to many Gambian households.

Mr Robinson recently admitted that NAWEC was facing troubles but promised “there will be light at the end of the tunnel”.
