President Adama Barrow has pledged to construct a new road network linking Faraba and neighbouring communities to the Kombo East district in the West Coast Region.

The president made the pledge on Wednesday while receiving a delegation from Faraba, which visited to commend his government for developments in the area, including the University of The Gambia’s main campus, electrification, tractors, fertiliser and scholarships for students.

Barrow said the planned road, in addition to the nearly completed Narang road, would improve access to markets for women farmers, make it easier for children to reach schools and open up Faraba’s rice fields for further development.

He said the infrastructure projects delivered since 2017 demonstrated his commitment to improving the lives and livelihoods of Gambians.
Barrow also assured the delegation of continued development beyond 2026 and called for a peaceful election year.

On the country’s electricity crisis, the president said the challenges were part of wider difficulties affecting countries connected to the West African Power Pool and urged citizens to remain patient as efforts continue to address the situation.

The delegation, including Kombo East Chief Babukarr Sanyang, Essa Dampha, Pa Kalipha Sanyang, Alhajie Jung Conteh, Sambou Daffeh, Kemo Jatta and Mariama Jarju, expressed their loyalty and support for the president.

They also thanked Barrow for receiving them during his annual leave.
