President Adama Barrow has sacked his Army Chief of Defence Staff Lieutenant General Masanneh N. Kinteh.

General Kinteh’s sacking comes few days after he returned to the country from a trip to the United States. However, no reason has been given about his sacking. It also comes a day when President Barrow travelled to Dakar to attend a Presidential  Council meeting with his Senegalese counterpart President Macky Sall.

Kinteh was replaced by his deputy Major General Yankuba A. Drammeh.

A letter from the presidency stated that:

“The public is hereby informed that His Excellency, Adama Barrow, President of the Republic of The Gambia and Commander in Chief of The Gambia Armed Forces, acting under the powers conferred on him under Section 190, sub-section (3) of the 1997 Constitution of the Republic of The Gambia, has decided to relieve Lieutenant General Masanneh N.
