President Adama Barrow says he has learned on the job and is now qualified to run the country.

The president, who kickstarted a nationwide election campaign today, is seeking a second term on December 4.

Barrow said: “Today is the first day of our campaign and we are ready to go all out to campaign for votes all over the country and we have a very, very strong team.

“Our confidence is very, very high and we are that the media is covering us. We want everybody to see what we are doing and we want The Gambian people to listen to our message. Our message is positive and I think we have a lot to offer.

“My first meeting I will break a very important news because we have something for the Gambian people.

“The contract is a social contract and we want to impact the lives of The Gambian people that’s why we have been doing this in the past four to five years and we will continue doing that for our next term.”

He added: “We believe that we can do better than what we did because when we get to office, obviously you have to allow yourself a grace period, you have to allow yourself to learn. But I think now we are qualified enough to run this country comfortably.

“These five years we considered it as a transition period. Now going forward to December 4, I think that will be a new start for this country. We’ve built a strong foundation on democracy moving forward.”
