President Adama Barrow has said only politics of development can uplift The Gambia from poverty.

Mr Barrow, who is on a month long nationwide tour, said the politics of development is “what we want in this country (and) that’s the only way we can move this country forward.

“We wanted Gambians to come out in their numbers for us to hear from them and to listen to our message. We also want to update them of what we have been doing since 2017.”

President Barrow faces an uphill task as about 60 per cent of the country’s 2 million population live below the World Bank’s poverty line.

The president is seeking a second term in  next year’s election which will be contested by 10 political parties.
