Gambian President Adama Barrow has warned “rogue” police officers against engaging in corrupt practices, threatening to dismiss any security personnel caught accepting bribes.
His comments came during a rally as part of the meets the people tour.
The president condemned rogue elements within the police force who compromise national peace and stability for personal gain.
While acknowledging the valuable role played by the majority of Gambian police officers in maintaining law and order, Barrow emphasised that corruption would not be tolerated.
“The police are doing an excellent job in ensuring peace and order,” he said, “but your duty is not to stop people in traffic and demand money from them.”
The president’s stern message was clear: any officer found accepting bribes would face immediate dismissal.
“This is against the laws of our country,”Barrow declared. “I will not tolerate lawbreakers in our security forces.”
