Ousainou Musa Yali Batchilly, leader of opposition Gambia Action Party, has asked electorate of Kanifing Municipality to re-elect mayor Ahmed Talib Bensouda in the upcoming mayoral election.

Batchilly’s call comes as his relationship with Barrow’s ruling National People’s Party turned soar.

He was among the opposition politicians who supported Barrow’s re-election in 2021 which resulted in his party executive expelling him.

However, he fired back in expelling those top members, insisting he owns GAP political party.

Mr Batchilly has recently been criticising Barrow’s leadership, warning of nefarious people in his inner circle.

He was also one of those politicians who called for sacking of the state minister for health, Dr Amadou Lamin Samateh over the baby cough syrup scandal.

Speaking at a news conference today (29 January) in Fajara, Batchilly said his decision to endorse Bensouda has been informed by the mayor’s exemplary leadership over the years in the running of KMC.

“I’m calling on all my supporters to endorse and vote for Talib Ahmed Bensouda for a well-informed council,” Batchilly said.

According to him, he has also been impressed by Mayor Bensouda’s initiation of several development projects that provide employment for youths in the country.
