Bakau Development Community has donated computers worth more than D300,000 to Bakau Upper Basic School.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony held at the school campus, Modou Lamin Sambou, the school principal, expressed happiness for the donation and assured the donors that the equipment will be used judiciously.
“We told them to take the school as yours and help us as much as you can for us to help the children because if you help the teachers, the teachers will help the children. And now the Bakau community has started showing their promises. We are definitely very happy for this donation,” he said.
Lang K Sanneh, head of education at Bakau Development Community, assured of their continued support to the school.
“The purpose of this gathering is our honourable Assan Touray, national assembly member for Bakau was privileged to have access to the parliamentary fund and it was through the committee meeting that he decided to plough back to his community, and he is targeting education as the key sector.
“It was felt that most of the students here not only Bakau alone but the government schools because they are not well resourced.
“Parents are withdrawing their kids taking them to schools run by individuals supported by philanthropists.
“They have lots of money and they are well motivated, their teachers are well paid even their allowances are more than your teachers’ salaries.
“They are well equipped and this is lacking here in Bakau Upper Basic School, but your teachers are sacrificing because they could have gone to other schools.
“So, these items to be presented today is one of the main reasons why we are here and there is a lot more to come and by God grace others will look up to you,” he said.
Lamin K Marong, principal education officer for region one thanked the community for supporting the school and assured the government collaboration to equipping the school.
