Berewuleng Women’s FC head coach Fakebba Saine has attributed his side’s 2-0 defeat to Guinea’s AS Bolonta in the CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU-A Qualifiers partly to illness and inadequate accommodation arrangements.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Fakebba Saine revealed that several members of his squad had suffered from malaria, while some players struggled to get adequate rest in the days leading up to the match.

“Most players suffered from malaria. Some also did not rest well, especially over the past three days due to accommodation issues,” Saine said.

The Berewuleng coach explained that the team had initially been lodged at the Goal Project but could not remain there, forcing them to consider alternative accommodation.

“We were lodged at Goal Project, could not stay, and felt we should have moved to a better hotel. That contributed to the loss against AS Bolonta,” he added.

Berewuleng, the reigning Gambian women’s champions, were beaten 2-0 by AS Bolonta at the Independence Stadium after conceding twice in the second half.

The Gambian champions will now have to regroup and address their challenges ahead of their remaining Group B fixtures as they look to keep their hopes of advancing in the competition alive.
