Sainabou Mbye, ex-wife of Bob Keita,

is in custody after being extradited from Dakar, according to reports.

Mbye was returned to Banjul on Friday after Gambian police declared her a suspect in the death of a child at the centre of rape allegations against her ex-husband.

She will appear in court on Monday and may face a manslaughter charge, a police source was reported to have told What’s On Gambia.

“It’s a capital offence, it attracts the punishment of life imprisonment,” the police source added.

Two men with connections to Mbye have already been arrested pending investigation.

The child, identified as Muhammad, reportedly died last week in Dakar in tragic circumstances, a day after Bundung high court judge ordered for a DNA test for both the child and Bob Keita.

It has been alleged that Keita is the father of the child after being accused of raping his ex-wife younger leading to her pregnancy.

Keita denied the rape charge and his case is keenly followed by the Gambian public.

And his supporters have been fighting running battles with police outside the Bundung court complex.

They claimed Keita is innocent and that the state was being “unfair” in its prosecution of the case.
