Bob Keita’s senior defence attorney Lamin S Camara has said that he is hopeful of getting his client acquitted.
Camara was speaking to reporters at the Bundung high court today (21 July).
Mr Keita, who is standing trial for allegedly raping his ex-wife’s underaged sister in 2019 resulting in a pregnancy, denies the charge.
“I am very optimistic that at the end of the day Bob will be vindicated. We don’t have any doubt about that,” he told reporters few minutes after filing a motion of affidavit to the high court.
“I trust 100% what Bob told me that he didn’t do anything. He is innocent. But us as lawyers, we must abide by the verdict of the court,” he added.
The rape trial which resumed today at the Bundung high court has been adjourned to Monday, July 25.
A large crowd of people showed up to the court hearing to show solidarity to Bob Keita.
There was a heavy police contingent in riot gears to stop Keita’s supporters from disrupting the court hearing.
