A body was recovered today on Palma Rima beach, Gambiana has been informed.
The identity of the victim is yet unknown but it is suspected that it is of a beach goer who drowned on Sunday (30 Oct.)
“There was a drowning at the Palma Rima Beach and the body was recovered today,” an eyewitness who wants to remain anonymous told Gambiana exclusively.
The eyewitness told Gambiana that the body was taken away by members of the Red Cross to one of the hospitals within the Greater Banjul Area.
The eyewitness strongly urged the government to start paying lifeguards in order to tackle drowning in the country.
According to the eyewitness, none of the lifeguards are paid, adding that “they do this service for free and the people coming to the beach outnumber the lifeguards.”
