The price of bread in The Gambia is set to increase from D10 to D12 starting in July, according to a government statement released this week.

The announcement comes amid a rising cost of living, despite official claims of economic growth—benefits many Gambians say they have yet to feel.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration, and Employment (MOTIE) said the new pricing was agreed during a stakeholder meeting held on May 27 and 28. The meeting included representatives from the Gambia Bakers, the Gambia Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (GCCPC), and the Consumer Consortium.

According to the statement, the price increase comes with a rise in bread weight. The average weight of Senfur will increase from 133g to 160g, while Tapalapa will rise from 165g to 190g. Both types will now be sold at D12.
