President Adama Barrow and senior government officials are reportedly holding an emergency meeting at State House as protests over the country’s worsening electricity crisis spread to several communities.

Sources told Gambiana that the meeting is focusing on the deteriorating situation amid growing public anger over prolonged power cuts.

One issue reportedly under discussion is whether emergency measures, including nightly curfews, should be introduced to contain the protests.

Protests were reported tonight in Dippakunda, Kerr Serigne, Farafenni, Jarra Soma, Tujereng and Tanji, where the police station was set ablaze during clashes between protesters and security forces.

The protests began in Banjul on Monday, with residents demanding an end to prolonged electricity and water shortages and expressing frustration over worsening economic conditions.

President Barrow responded on Tuesday by visiting NAWEC facilities in Kotu and Brikama, where he promised to address the electricity crisis by the end of October.
