Broadcast journalist Ebrima Jarra has protested his dismissal through his lawyer, describing it as “wrong” and “illegal”.

Jarra, a well-known newsreader in Mandinka, was sacked from King FM Radio on June 4, 2025. The dismissal allegedly followed a meeting between Jarra, and one of his colleagues, and the radio manager regarding a request for a pay rise.

According to Jarra, the meeting did not sit well with the radio owner, and he believes his dismissal is directly linked to their request for better pay.

Jarra stated that he has engaged a lawyer, who has already written to the station regarding what they claim is an unlawful dismissal. They are now awaiting a response from the station to determine the next course of action.

“I was sacked by the owner of the radio, not the manager. I wasn’t given any warning letter. I received my dismissal letter on Wednesday after reading the news. You cannot work for free, and you have every right to ask for what you need, which I did respectfully,” he said.

“I see my sacking as unfair, and there are laws that protect us. I was appointed on the first of March, and I have my appointment letter with me. I have consulted my legal counsel, who has written to King FM, and we are waiting for their reply. From there, we will know our next step,” he added.
