The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has granted provisional approval to The Gambia’s Independence Stadium to host CAF sanctioned football matches, the Ministry of Youth and Sports has announced.
The Ministry described the development as “a significant milestone” in the government’s efforts to upgrade the country’s premier sporting facility and meet international standards.

The Ministry thanked all stakeholders involved in the rehabilitation and readiness of the stadium, including the Gambia Football Federation, technical teams and contractors, as well as the general public for its “patience, understanding and continued support throughout the rehabilitation process.”

The Ministry said it remains committed to working with CAF and the GFF to ensure pre-match and matchday operations meet CAF requirements “in order to secure a full approval.”
