The Gambia’s Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Brigadier General Mama O. Cham, has issued a stern warning to soldiers against any actions that could damage the reputation of the armed forces or erode public trust.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony for soldiers who completed an intensive leadership and counter-terrorism training programme led by British military personnel, Brigadier General Cham said the training was designed to strengthen professionalism and prepare troops for evolving security challenges in the region.

Addressing the graduates, the CDS acknowledged a widespread perception that public servants are underperforming. He stressed that under his leadership, the Gambia Armed Forces would maintain a zero–tolerance policy toward any conduct that destabilises the country or undermines the military’s integrity.
“We came to serve our nation, and it is a privilege,” Cham said. “Under our watch, there will be zero tolerance for anyone seeking to destabilise the country.”
He reminded soldiers that wearing the uniform is a symbol of the nation’s “brave values” and called for loyalty, dedication, and the responsible management of resources.
Cham warned that malpractice, mismanagement, or any behaviour that breaks the trust of the Gambian people would not be tolerated.
