Hundreds of internet users have been left frustrated following a major internet blackout that affected parts of the country, disrupting connectivity and paralysing online activity for many hours.

The outage affected both individuals and businesses, with users reporting poor connectivity before services went completely down in several areas. Businesses that rely heavily on internet services were among the hardest hit, with operations significantly disrupted.

Gamtel confirmed the disruption, saying technical teams are working to restore services as quickly as possible.

The company stated: “Our technical teams are actively investigating the cause and working diligently to restore services as quickly as possible.”

It added: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your patience and understanding while we work to resolve the issue.”

The internet failure comes at a time when the country is also facing persistent electricity challenges that have already affected households and businesses nationwide.

The National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC) has warned that ongoing power outages could continue until mid-June, linking the situation to technical issues beyond its control.

The electricity crisis has already been blamed for disrupting business activities, affecting food storage, and worsening living conditions for many households.

Meanwhile, pressure continues to mount as civil society group Gambians Against Looted Assets has threatened a nationwide protest over the persistent power shortages, issuing a June 19 ultimatum.

In response, the government has appealed for patience, saying efforts are ongoing to stabilise electricity supply and restore normal service delivery.
