Supreme Court Chief Justice Hassan Jallow

The Chief Justice of The Gambia, Hassan B. Jallow, has ordered a coroner’s inquest into the death of Omar Badjie, which reportedly occurred in Mandinary, Kombo North, West Coast Region, on 26 September 2025.

The order follows an application by the Office of the Attorney General and Ministry of Justice under the Coroners Act.

Badjie, a young resident of Mandinary, died under circumstances that have sparked concern in the community.

According to accounts from family and neighbours, he was allegedly involved in an altercation that left him seriously injured before being pronounced dead.

His death has since triggered calls for justice from relatives, community members and local leaders, who gathered in large numbers for his funeral.

The inquest will be conducted by Principal Magistrate Anna O. Mendy at the Brikama Magistrates’ Court to establish the cause and circumstances surrounding Badjie’s death.

According to Judicial Secretary Abdou Conteh, further updates will be provided as the process unfolds.
