The Gambia national football team head coach has described their triumph against South Sudan as an opportunity to make history in the African Nations cup qualifiers.
The Scorpions defeated the Bright Stars of South Sudan 3-2 in Egypt to secure second place in Group G with 9 points.
“Proud of my team! Tough match but a 3-2 win against South Sudan, we are on track to write more history,” coach Tom Saintfiet said.
The Gambia will now play their last game against Congo at home in September and will qualify for the Afcon tournament in they win that match.
It will be the second appearance for The Gambia after a successful debut in Cameroon where they made it to the quarterfinals.
