Commonwealth Secretary-General Baroness Patricia Scotland has pledged her organisation’s support to The Gambia.

The secretary general made the pledge at a meeting with President Adama Barrow today at State House.

Baroness Scotland is in Banjul as head of the Commonwealth delegation to President Barrow’s second inauguration ceremony on Thursday.

She applauded the conduct of The Gambia presidential election last December which she referred to as “free and fair.”

Baroness Scotland commended President Barrow’s inaugural speech for being inclusive of all Gambians. 

She also praised Gambia’s re-engagement with the Commonwealth as a positive move that will benefit the country and its people in many ways.

Meanwhile, Emperor Naruhito of Japan is amongst the latest world leaders to extend congratulatory message to President Barrow as he starts his second term in office.
