A man and his wife have tested positive for coronavirus, the Gambia’s health authorities said.

The couple in their 50s are among five people who tested positive on a day the country recorded its highest single day rise in coronavirus cases in five weeks.

The country’s total coronavirus cases is 3,838 and no Covid-19 related death was reported.

According to health officials the median age of the new coronavirus cases is 60.

The nation’s upsurge in coronavirus cases comes as President Adama Barrow’s Meet-the-People tour nears its end.

Critics however have attributed to the spike in coronavirus cases to the president’s tour.
