Tens of hundreds of people are crossing from the urban centre to rural Gambia and Senegal to observe the Muslims feats of Eid ul Fitr locally known as ‘Korite’.

The three ferries are plying from Banjul to Barra in a bid to ease river transportation and avoid congestion at the terminals.

“Thus far, the demand has extremely gone down, as both passengers and vehicles board and sail off conveniently to the other end in a timely fashion,” Yankuba Manneh, communication officer for Gambia Ports Authourity told Gambiana.

Meanwhile, paramilitary officers and  members of the Gambia Red Cross Society are deployed at the Banjul terminal to complement the conscious efforts of the Management of Ferry Services to beef up security and  ensure safety and to rapidly respond to emergencies.
