Opposition leaders Ousainou Darboe of the United Democratic Party and Mai Fatty of the Gambia Moral Congress have today filed their nomination papers to the Independent Electoral Commission.

Lawyer Darboe was accompanied by a huge crowd of his supporters as he drove to the IEC headquarters to hand over his documents.

Darboe expressed optimism of unseating his former ally President Adama Barrow in the upcoming presidential election.

Darboe could not speak to reporters.

Few minutes later Mai Ahmed Fatty, leader of Gambia Moral Congress, also filed his bulk of documents to the nation’s electoral body, as he was also accompanied by his supporters dressed in red shirts and red caps.

Mr Fatty promised to fight the crime rate and killings in the country, as he told Gambians their man is back to fight for them.

“This election is a contest of ideas and not a contest of crowd…your man is back and I will make sure you have what it deserves to protect our people in the street. This is the beginning of the end against the fight against…,” he said.

Ebrima Jagne of All People’s Party has withdrawn his nomination. His party opted not to sponsor him to run in the December presidential election.
