Lawyer Ousainou Darboe, leader of the United Democratic Party, has slammed the Barrow government over the deplorable conditions of the country’s ferries.
Speaking at Talinding during a welcome celebration for defectors from other political parties, Darboe called on Gambians to join him in changing the Barrow government in 2026 election.
“A day never went without a ferry plying between Banjul and Barra from Sir Dawda’s time to Yahya Jammeh’s. Despite Yahya Jammeh’s evil practices, the ferry always operated. But the [deplorable] signs were always there.
“We saw them using cars to weigh down the ramps for the ferries to anchor. Any responsible government would have fixed the problem and would not have waited until all three ferries break down completely. What happened in Yahya Jammeh’s time is happening 10 times as much in Barrow’s government,” he said.
