Opposition leader Ousainou Darboe has exhausted his time in politics and should retire, according to former KMC mayor.

Yankuba Colley said Darboe, who leads the United Democratic Party (UDP) should not have contested the December 4 presidential election.

“Darboe shouldn’t have even contested this election because there are a lot of intelligent young people in the UDP who can lead the party. This is why he was humiliated,” Colley told The Standard last week.

He said the veteran opposition leader should retire from politics and allow the young talents from his party to takeover the reins.

He said the UDP suffered heavy losses at the polls due to their toxic brand of politics.

“It is the Gambian people who fought against the UDP, and that is why you have 95 percent of the registered voters coming out to vote.

“It was a vote against the UDP. The results reflected how the majority of Gambians feel about the UDP. The Gambian people came together and voted for Barrow in protest against the UDP,” Colley said.

He added that the UDP camp had taken Barrow for granted and that worked in his favour which delivered him a landslide victory.
