Opposition leader Ousainou Darboe has promised to end the perilous ‘backway’ journey for Gambian young men and women by empowering them with standard living wages under his presidency.

At least thousands of Gambian youths have travelled to Europe through the dangerous Mediterranean route for greener pasture which left dozens of them drowned in the sea.

As he continued his countrywide tour, Darboe said: “my government will eradicate irregular migration to mitigate the level of lives lost in the Mediterranean sea.”

“Our youths are leaving the country and use boats that sink in the ocean,” Darboe said.

He puts the blame on Barrow’s leadership for not doing enough to create more jobs for the youths of the country.

“Our youths have no hope in this government because they cannot get jobs for living. And now they are embarking on dangerous route to Europe to find jobs,” he told a UDP rally.

According to Darboe, his government will want to see youth stop taking the perilous route to Europe.

Meanwhile, he alsoe urged the youths to respect and take good care of their parents.
