The leader of United Democratic Party has revealed that his party’s five-point agenda seeks to take The Gambia to the “promise land”.
Speaking to delegates at the party’s congress in Janjangbureh yesterday Ousainou Darboe said the policy document the party is working on will usher in a new Gambia.
“These policy documents are to save The Gambia and take it to a level of improvement and also to a level the world would be envious of,” Mr Darboe said.
The opposition leader who has been at the helm of the UDP is expected to be re-elected as the party leader and secretary general by delegates.
Meanwhile, the party also changed its elective congress from two to four years.
However, some delegates opposed the rejection sparking disagreement that disrupted the congress for a short while.
“Anyone who has discipline doesn’t go to a congress and behave the way you are behaving.
“If anyone wants to get an election in every two years for them so that they can vie for office, then say do so while those who want four years can also do the same.
“But to stand over there and disrupt the congress is disrespectful and this is unknown to UDP. UDP is a party of discipline.
“You’re bringing the party’s name into disrepute and making people have less respect for UDP. If anyone is planning to sabotage this congress, you will not be able to do it,” Darboe told the congress.
