UDP leader ANM Ousainou Darboe has urged the National Democratic Party (NDP) to consider partnering with the United Democratic Party ahead of the December presidential election.

Darboe made the appeal as opposition parties continue to explore possible cooperation ahead of the polls.

Speaking on the prospect of working with the NDP, the veteran opposition leader said the two parties share common ground on several of the country’s pressing issues.

He pointed to similarities in their political programmes and policy priorities, arguing that the parties could find sufficient ground to work together.

“You cannot have a better partner than the UDP,” Darboe told the NDP leadership.

He also suggested that the NDP’s manifesto may not differ significantly from that of the UDP, further arguing that similarities between the two parties could provide a basis for closer cooperation.

Darboe’s appeal comes as opposition parties assess their options ahead of the December presidential election, including possible alliances and other forms of political collaboration.

The UDP leader did not announce a formal agreement with the NDP, but his remarks signal the party’s interest in closer cooperation with the opposition group.

The NDP’s response to the proposal will be closely watched as political parties continue positioning themselves ahead of the presidential poll.
