Opposition United Democratic Party (UDP) leader Ousainou Darboe has warned that re-electing President Adama Barrow for another term would be disastrous for The Gambia.

Addressing supporters at a rally in Kotu Quarry hosted by Banjul Mayor Rohey Malick Lowe, Darboe urged voters to reject Barrow in the December presidential election, saying a further five-year term would worsen the country’s living conditions.

“God forbid if you vote for Barrow for another five-year term, this country will sink,” Darboe said.

He added that the situation could become so difficult that he might even consider taking the irregular migration route to Europe, commonly known as the “back way”.

“If that happens, I could also go on the ‘back way’ like the young people are going,” he said.

Darboe accused the Barrow administration of corruption and incompetence, which he said had contributed to the country’s worsening conditions.

He also described Kanifing Municipality as a key battleground in the election and urged UDP supporters to remain vigilant at polling stations to guard against alleged voter manipulation.
