
The Gambia Police Force (GPF) has announced the promotion of Demba Sowe to the position of deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), following the statutory retirement of former DIG, Momodou Sowe.
A native of Kampassa Village, Foni Jarrol, West Coast Region, DIG Sowe joined the GPF in 1985 as a Police Constable.
Over a distinguished career spanning more than three decades, he has held several key leadership positions, including Officer Commanding Mansa Konko Division, Officer Commanding Anti-Fraud Squad, Commissioner of Administration, Commissioner of Interpol & CIIB, AIG Crime Management, and Director of Intelligence at the former National Intelligence Agency (NIA).
DIG Sowe holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and a Barrister-at-Law (BL) from the University of The Gambia. His professional development includes extensive training in criminal investigation, traffic management, crime scene analysis, and peacekeeping, both locally and abroad.
He also represented The Gambia on international peacekeeping missions, notably with the United Nations Mission in Sierra Leone (UNAMSIL) from 2004 to 2006.
