The daughter of slain Gambian journalist, Deyda Hydara, has reacted to the confession and testimony of her father’s killer and the brutal manner in which his life was taken.

In a social media post Ms Marie Hydara said she was upset and numb
to see her father’s killer confessed that their “cowardly actions” were rewarded with the sum of D50,000.

“.. I was terribly wrong because nothing prepares you for this…. watching on TV seeing the eyes of one of his killers….not only admitting his part in the cold and cowardly killing but proudly saying ‘I scored more than D50 000’ (brought back that numbness of that fateful Night/morning 16 th December 2004)
I guess for a job well done…
Taking of another man ‘s life for D50,000 your families must be proud.”

I thought after all this time
Nothing can surprise me when it comes to my dad’s killing…. Someone’s husband
Someone’s father
Someone’s grandfather
Someone’s brother
Someone’s uncle
Someone’s friend /colleague

A gentle giant for that matter, one who was selfless through and through, he believed in sharing all he had with his people…..
He refused to be intimidated or be compromised , he refused to go down without a fight… all for the conviction, passion and tenacity of a profession.. As he said “journalism is my life”
somehow that was an inconvenience to the ignorant fools who have no respect for humanity , Freedom, Justice and Democracy which my dad stood for ….

How on earth did we get here? are these people really Gambians.?.and he gets the audacity to lie through his teeth in an attempt to exornorate himself from the killer squad.

To say this was devastating is an understatement!
