Officers of the Gambia Drug Law Enforcement Agency (DLEAG) have arrested 20 suspects for possession of illicit drugs across the country. 

Nineteen of the suspects are adult males between the ages of 18 and 66. A lone female was also arrested for possession. 

The occupations of the suspects are carpenter, apprentice, motorbike mechanic, business, painting, tiling, driving, fishing , and a labourer.   

DLEAG said in a weekly situational update today (25 May) that it has seized a substantial amount of illicit drugs including Cannabis, Skunk, ecstasy tablets, kush, hashish and cocaine. 

The arrests were executed across the seven administrative divisions including Banjul, Kanifing Municipality, West Coast and Upper River Region.    

Meanwhile, DLEAG said the seizure of 91 parcels of skunk and 1,988 pills of ecstasy tablets was the outcome of a coordinated sting operation spanning over a period of one month. 

The principal suspect who resides in Atlanta, Georgia in the United States of America (USA) is currently at large. 

However, his mother, the main primary distributor of his illicit products in The Gambia, is currently in custody.  

DLEAG said the suspect’s mother will be charged for drug related offences ranging from possession, trafficking and dealing in prohibited and controlled drugs.
