An unnamed officer of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (DLEAG) has been badly injured during a raid on suspected drug traffickers in Foni Sibanor.
The injury comes days after the agency sought to armed its operatives against violent drugs traffickers in the country.
DLEAG spokesman Ousman Saidybah said the officer was injured after the suspects obstructed the officers as they attempted to search their house in Sibanor on 20 August.
“One of the operatives sustained an injury on his arm during the encounter and he was later taken to Sibanor Hospital for treatment.
“A further search of the house led to the discovery of some quantities of suspected cannabis sativa concealed in a traveling bag and some cannabis seeds found under the carpet,” Saidybah said.
Saidybah said they are reviewing their operational tactics as well as the country’s Drug Control Act to ensure officers are protected from harm.
He said: “I do know that efforts are being made to address these challenges and it is in an advanced stage.
“And the Drug Control Act is being completely overhauled. There are some gaps that we identified. We are working to bring in different kinds of equipment.”
He added that some of their officers have died due to injuries sustained during raids on drugs traffickers.
